We are currently looking for a Scientist for experimental heat and mass transfer (m/f/d)
Modern crystalline materials, that are the basis of innovations in microelectronics or renewable energy, are produced in complex high-temperature processes involving a large variety of physical phenomena. In the NEMOCRYS project (https://www.researchgate.net/project/NEMOCRYS), funded by the European Union through the research & innovation program Horizon 2020, we are working on a new generation of multiphysical models for such processes. An innovative experimental platform using model materials provides comprehensive data for the development and validation of new physical models, which is one of the major challenges in crystal growth technology. In our project you will gain unique experience while working in an interdisciplinary team on ground-breaking science shaping the production of the materials of tomorrow.
Analyze heat and mass transfer in selected crystal growth processes at IKZ (e.g., floating zone growth of semiconductors and oxides above 1400 °C)
Design physically similar crystal growth systems working at lower temperatures in the sense of model experiments with extensive capabilities for in-situ observation
Select and integrate state-of-the art measuring equipment for various physical fields (e.g., magnetic field, fluid velocity)
Perform experimental studies, prepare validation data for theoretical models and publish the results in scientific journals
MSc or equivalent degree or PhD in physical sciences, engineering or related discipline
Solid theory knowledge and laboratory practice with hands-on mentality for processes involving heat and mass transfer
Practical experience in design and development of scientific equipment including CAD skills
Good understanding of complex measurement and sensor systems including automatization (e.g., using Python scripts)
Motivation for scientific work including publications of results and participation in conferences
The position is initially limited to 1 year, an extension is possible. Payment is according to TVöD (Treaty for German public service). IKZ is an equal opportunity employer.
